THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The self-financing medical college managements on Tuesday decided to give 50 percent of MBBS seats to government quota.The meeting was convened against the backdrop of the threat by the Kerala Self-Financing Medical College Managements Association that it was withdrawing from the agreement and was going for admissions to all MBBS seats in colleges under it from the entrance test being conducted by their consortium.The Managements' Association had entered into an agreement with the previous government even as the colleges under the Inter-Church Council had been admitting students to their colleges on their own.The colleges under the Inter-Church Council had also initiated their admission process this year.The meeting was attended by Cabinet subcommittee members, including Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb and Health Minister Adoor Prakash.The medical colleges under the Inter-Church Council said there was practical difficulty in giving 50 percent seats to the government this year. They said they were willing to discuss the issue with the government next year.Dental college managements willing Dental College Managements told the Cabinet subcommittee that they are willing to allocate 50 per cent of seats to the government.The proposal on fees structure will be submitted to the government on Wednesday. This will come for discussions at the next meeting scheduled for June 14.
