Meet Mohan, The Chitti

CHENNAI: If not the Superstar himself, it was the Rajni-style antics of a look-alike that kept scores of fans amused for over two hours at an auditorium in Valluvarkottam on Tuesday.  Through the ages, many have mimicked the ‘baadsha’ of Kollywood. However, it was Mohan, a ‘clone’ of the superstar even at closet, who got the audience on their feet even as he swayed to many popular tunes throughout the evening. “I have been performing like the Superstar for more than 20 years now and owe my livelihood to Rajini,” said 39-year-old Mohan. A native of Coimbatore, Mohan was a dancer with a light music troupe before his friends, neighbours and relatives told him that he has the features of Rajinikanth. That proved a push for this die-hard fan to groove like the Superstar on stage. Mohan started imitating his favourite hero’s gestures by watching his movies. “I have acted in advertisements and even some movies,” he said, while adding that he usually gets at least 10 days of work a month. “Today, I have two other marriage functions after this,” he signed off. Mohan is married and has a baby girl.  Actor Karunaas said: “If actor Vijayakanth can get 10 per cent of vote bank after launching a party, Superstar’s potential is much much bigger. Still, he remains down to earth.”
