CHENNAI: Burglars broke into the house of a leading ‘masala’ company owner in Nolambur on Wednesday and decamped with 25 sovereigns and Rs. 50,000.According to sources, Prince (54) of Mogappair West, who runs a masala company at Athipattu and his family, were away for Ayudha puja celebrations on Wednesday night when the burglars struck. When he returned home, he found the gold ornaments and cash kept in the safe in the bedroom, missing. Following a complaint from the manager of a nationalised bank, alleging that fake credit cards were being used to withdraw money from the accounts of its customers at ATM centres, a special CCB team arrested five persons at Kovilambakkam. They were identified as B Umesh (27), V Divyan (24), S Rajendran (48), C Udayakumar (39) and S Sathyakumar (23). Of these, Umesh, Divyan and Rajendran were Sri Lankan Tamils. Around 30 fake credit cards, a skimmer machine, decoder machine, computer and laptop were seized from the gang. Three cars and high-end models of cell phones that were purchased using the fake cards were also seized. Probe revealed that there were other cases of credit card fraud pending against Umesh, Udayakumar and Rajendran.Chain SnatchedA woman was relieved of her gold chain at Ashok Nagar.
