Man Bitten By Snake Arrives At Belagavi Hospital With Captured Reptile, Shocks Staff
Shahid from Belagavi told the hospital staff that he was not aware of which species the snake belonged to and therefore brought it with him.

The staff of the Belagavi district hospital in Karnataka were left shocked after a man bought the snake who bit him to get the right medical treatment. According to the sources, Shahid, a resident of Hunchanatti village in Belagavi taluk possesses the skills of catching a snake. He captured the snake that had sneaked into his house. As he was releasing the snake on the outskirts of the village, it bit him.

Even in this tense situation, Shahid didn’t lose his calm and captured the snake again in a plastic jar. He took the snake to the district hospital in Belagavi. The hospital staff was taken aback after watching the sealed snake in a plastic box. Shahid told the hospital staff that he was not aware of which species the snake belonged to and therefore brought it with him. This could help the doctors to apply the right medical treatment. “There was no other intention behind getting it here,” said Shahid. After the man was treated for snakebite, he went back with the reptile.

The same incident occurred a year ago in Odisha. A man identified as Srimanta Mallicke brought the snake wrapped in a plastic bag to the District Headquarters Hospital, Jajpur after getting bit by the same snake. According to the TOI report, a man was bitten by the snake and wanted to understand the venom so that he could be treated accordingly. He decided to bring the snake to the hospital to get it identified and treated. This incident caused panic among other patients at the hospital. The medical staff immediately called the snake helpline number to rescue the snake.

They suggested the man bring the photograph of the snake rather than bringing the live reptile to the hospital. After identifying the species of the snake, the doctors administered the ant-venom treatment. “We appreciate the courage of the youth, but we do not recommend such actions. It is important to understand that handling a snake without proper knowledge and training can be dangerous and can lead to fatal consequences.” said the doctor of District Headquarters Hospital, Jajpur.
