Malaysia asks India to join search and rescue operations of missing plane
Both the Indian and Malaysian authorities have decided to have a designated contact person for the search and rescue operation.

New Delhi: The Malaysian Authorities have requested India to be part of the multinational search operation for the missing plane.

Official Sources say that Malaysian Authorities had contacted India on Tuesday requesting for help. It was thereafter decided that there will be designated contact point on both the Malaysian and Indian sides. However, India is yet to fix the contact person for the operation.

Vietnam has said that it is scaling down search operations due to lack of information. There have been conflicting reports over the last contact with the plane. The Malaysian air force chief has on Wednesday denied saying that the military radar had last tracked the missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner over the Strait of Malacca. According to reports, the air force chief had earlier admitted that the plane was last detected on the radar near the strait of Malacca before losing contact.

A massive air and sea search now in its fifth day and has failed to find any trace of the Boeing 777. A senior Malaysian official has now said that the plane's transponder had stopped working at the time flight controllers lost contact with it.

The international police agency Interpol, too, rejected the theory that the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines jet was the result of a terrorist attack.

Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble also suggested that two men who boarded using stolen passports and had aroused suspicion may have been smuggled by traffickers.
