Malayalam literary critic MM Basheer allegedly forced to discontinue his column on Ramayana

New Delhi: Malayalam literary critic MM Basheer has been allegedly forced to discontinue his column on Ramayana at the behest of right wing groups.

According to reports, Basheer was forced to stop writing the column after he received abusive calls. The six part series had started on Mathrubhumi daily from August 3. Basheer discontinued it after the 5th one was published.

A fringe outfit called Hanuman Sena had also put up posters outside his office. Basheer is a former professor of Malayalam at the Calicut University, and a widely respected scholar. Basheer has written many articles on the Ramayana before.
