MANGALORE: Proposals worth Rs 226 crore for the upgradation of Mangalore railway stations is in various stages of its completion, Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) S K Raina informed on Friday.
Addressing the gathering he said Rs 150 crore worth doubling project from Panambur to Mangalore railway junction viaJokatte had already begun. Paring queries on setting a deadline for completion of doubling work, he said the work depended on geotechnical investigations planned near Kulshekar tunnel.The new Netravathy bridge being constructed at a total cost of Rs 50 crore should have been completed in April this year and with the steel girders being placed, the new bridge is likely to be open for the public this December, he informed. Over Rs 2.5 crore money was invested to revamp Mangalore central railway station and another Rs 2.5 crore worth projects were being planned to make changes in the railway stations.

A proposal to incorporating two additional platforms to increase the capacity of Mangalore central railway station and building pit lines among others at a total cost of Rs 16 crore was submitted to the Railway Board for including it in the railway budget 2012-13. "We also have submitted a proposal to relocate the reservation counters at a total cost of Rs 1.5 crore keeping passenger convenience in mind," Raina informed.

Expressing disapproval to Mysore DRM not responding to his letters seeking his participation in the DRM level meetings, he stressed that Mysore DRM must take the initiative for conducting the joint inspection. "Though we have a grouse against Kerala, it is Kerala DRM who has extended all support to us," he stressed.
