KOZHIKODE: Coming down heavily against the A P  Sunni faction led by Kanthapuram A P Abubacker Musaliyar, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state general secretary K P A Majeed has branded Kanthapuram faction a “corporate” entity and alleged that the proposed multi-crore mosque to preserve the so-called “thirukesham” (holy hair) of Prophet Muhammed was nothing but a “commercial complex”.Majeed has blasted the Kanthapuram faction in an interview given to the latest edition of “Satyadhara”, the mouthpiece of the SKSSF (Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation). SKSSF was waging a relentless war against Kanthapuram faction ever since the latter claimed possession of prophet’s hair and announced a mega mosque project in Kozhikode.Asked whether the IUML could utilise the present wrangle between Kanthapuram faction and the CPM, Majeed said, “The ongoing rift between Kanthapuram and CPM could not be permanent. Kanthapuram faction is not a group of scholars but a corporate entity. They could never move forward by displeasing the ruling front.Be it theCongress or the BJP in power at the Centre, Kanthapuram’s stand has remained the same.Stating that Kozhikode does not require a mosque as envisaged by Kanthapuram faction, Majeed made it clear that IUML would never cooperate with the venture. “It’s primarily a commercial establishment kind of thing and the mosque is in name only,” Majeed says. The IUML leader alleged that Pinarayi Vijayan’s comment on the holy hair row was politically motivated and was part of the CPM’s ploy to politically exploit the differences of opinion in religious organisations. “As far as IUML is concerned,” said Majeed, “what IUML supremo Hyderali Shihab says is the final word and he has openly announced his stance on the issue on several occasions.Majeed, in the article, also mentions that the IUML and its leaders have never intervened to secure key positions in National Urdu Council and in Indian Railways. Regarding the emergence of new political parties within the community, Majeed said that it would affect the empowerment of Muslims. “The main achievement of Muslims of the state was that they could organise themselves politically. However, now a section is deliberately trying to weaken the IUML so that they could launch their political outfits. Jama’at-e-Islami Hind has launched a party and they are attempting to portray that Muslims are being victimised here.
