Maharashtra govt to make travel insurance mandatory
The Maharashtra government proposes to make it mandatory for those travelling outside the state to register their details.

Mumbai: In what's being seen as a fallout of the Uttarakhand tragedy, the Maharashtra government is likely to make travel insurance mandatory. This comes in the wake of the tragedy in Uttarakhand and the difficulties faced in collating a list of the missing.

The Maharashtra government is proposing to making it mandatory for those travelling for pilgrimage or otherwise outside the state to register their details and travel plans with the local authority.

Almost three weeks after the Uttarakhand floods, there is no clarity over the number of people missing in the state. While Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has said that over 3,000 people are missing, a UN agency has estimated that the number of missing could be over 11,000.
