New Delhi: Congress has asked former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections against BJP leader Arun Jaitley from Amritsar, sources said on Friday.
The Congress leader had earlier expressed that he was ready to take on Arun Jaitley from Amritsar constituency. Speaking to CNN-IBN he said, "I had told Congress president Sonia Gandhi that I would like to concentrate on my own seat in Patiala and focus on campaigning in Punjab. But if the Congress chief wants me to contest the general elections from Amritsar then I will do so."
Amarinder Singh had also asserted that the situation was in favour of the Congress in Punjab. He said, "There is no anti-incumbency against Congress in Punjab."
Commenting on the Aam Aadmi Party factor in Punjab, former Punjab chief minister had said, "I think AAP factor will be limited to some urban areas. It has no presence in rural areas and there is nothing to worry about it."
