Los Angeles: 'Two and a Half Men' co-creator Chuck Lorre is moving ahead with a reboot of the popular show without Charlie Sheen.
Lorre is planning to give Jon Cryer a significant part in the new series besides introducing a new, yet-to-be-cast character.
The time is running out for the CBS presentation in May and Lorre has hit upon an idea to renew the Warner Bros-produced sitcom with a new creative direction that does not involve Sheen, who was fired from the series in March, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Lorre is said to have presented close associates and Men co-star Jon Cryer with the plan, and the studio and network are aware of his intentions.
Sheen, who is suing Lorre and Warner Bros for USD 100 million, has frequently expressed his desire to return to the show as he crisscrosses the country on his 'Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option' comedy tour.
Sheen is reportedly still keen to be reinstated but Lorre, who had to bear some nasty comments from the actor, is said to remain uninterested in meeting with Sheen, and Warners sources are adamant that Sheen will not be invited back.
Both CBS and Warner Bros have not given any indication whether 'Men' will return for a ninth season but the studio is keen to replace Sheen with names from Woody Harrelson to Jeremy Piven to Bob Saget doing the rounds.
