THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will implement e-payment facility in all local bodies with the software expertise of the Information Kerala Mission (IKM) and will give a boost to e-procurement.Industries and IT Minister P K Kunhalikutty said that already the payment of property taxes have been switched to e-payment mode in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kozhikode corporations.A similar mode of payment would be implemented soon in Kasargod, Kanhangad, Kannur, Ottappalam and Guruvayur, he said. “The work of creating a data base is currently going on in these places and once it is over the collection of property taxes can be switched to the e-payment mode. “The creation of data base is the initial stages in other local bodies and once it is completed the e-payment facility would be started,” he said.The minister said that Kerala is also one among the ten states selected by the Centre to start the e-procurement project. “A core committee has been formed for the implementation of the e-governance in the state under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. Four departments, including Police, Transport, Public Works and Water are selected for the implementation of the first phase of the project,” he said.The state IT department recently conducted training for the officials of the PWD and a workshop for the Police department. For the unification of the government tender process and e-procurment, www.etenders.kerala.gov.in was started.e-district project, pilot of the which was started in Kannur and Palakkad, would also be implemented in other districts, he said.For reaching out to people in the rural areas, the government plans to start more Akshaya centres. “Already 2,200 Akshaya centres have started for this purpose. Through these centres government-to-citizen and business-to-consumer services are being provided,” he said.
