THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The court is the ray of hope for a common man seeking justice. Adhering to this adage, Thiruvananthapuram District Court at Vanchiyoor, housed in the grand old brick red building of the Victorian era, has completed two glorious centuries. The judicial officers, advocates and court staff of the District Court have all geared up to celebrate in grand style the bicentennial anniversary of the court, which was established in the year 1811.  The four-month-long  ‘Legum Fest 2011’ celebrations will start with a proclamation rally which will commence from Gandhi Park at Fort on August 1 at 3.30 pm in which all the advocates, advocates’ clerks, court staff and common people are expected to attend. The Minister for Transport and Devaswom, V S Sivakumar will flag off the rally. The rally will reach the district court premises at 5.30 pm where District Judge C Sudheendrakumar will hoist the flag and declare the commencement of the celebrations.   Governor R S Gavai will formally inaugurate the celebrations at the court on August 3 at 5.30 pm. Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma will light the traditional lamp. Chief Justice Jasti Chalameswar will deliver the keynote address at a function to be presided over by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Other dignitaries, including Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, Justice Pious C Kuriakose, Ministers K M Mani and V S Sivakumar, Members of Parliament Shashi Tharoor and A Sampath, Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Mayor K Chandrika, C Sudheendrakumar and Chairman of Bar Council of Kerala C Sreedharan Nair.    Addressing a press conference here on Friday, C K Seetharam, president of Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association and also the chairman of the Organising Committee of Legum Fest, said that senior advocates practising at the court who have also completed 40 years in the profession will be felicitated as part of the celebrations. An All-India Moot Court competition, Mega Adalat, Enrolment Fest and a medical camp will also be organised at the court during the celebrations. The bicentennial celebrations will conclude on December 31.  The working chairman of Organising Committee, advocate K P Jayachandran,  and general convener S P Satheesh Kumar also attended the press conference.
