Law department to hold local conferences

With a view to sensitising officials to the need for effective representation of government cases before the courts, the state Law Department has taken an initiative to organise regional conferences.

K G V Murthy, special law secretary to state government, told Express that the government and its various agencies are the predominant litigants in courts and tribunals. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on the core issues involved in the litigations and address them squarely, while safeguarding the public interests.

He said that the first divisional conference would be held on October 12 at Dhwarda, followed by another in Gulbarga on October 19.

Review of pending cases, statutory notices and responses from the government, settlement of government litigations through ADR methods, effective representation of cases, and issues relating to infrastructure facilities required to handle government cases pending before various courts, are among the agenda of the one-day conference, he said.

Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Minister Sureshkumar would inaugurate the Dharwad conference.

HC government advocates and pleaders, would be invited to the conference, apart from deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, tahsildars, DGPs, ADGPs, AGPs and law officers of the concerned divisions.
