Bangalore: Normal life was on Saturday disrupted in Karnataka due to the day-long bandh called by the ruling BJP to protest Governor HR Bhardwaj's sanction for prosecuting Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in alleged land scams.
Majority of shops and business establishments across the state remaining closed while schools, including government-run ones, declared a holiday as a precautionary measure.
BJP activists staged protests and shouted anti-Governor slogans in the city and other parts of the state, according to reports reaching in Bangalore.
Transport authorities maintained skeletal bus services in the city, causing hardship to commuters.
The Governor has directed DGP Ajai Kumar Singh to take all security measures to ensure that there is no trouble during the bandh and to deal firmly with anti-social elements.
City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidri has promulgated two-day prohibitory orders in the city from Saturday.
The DGP said elaborate security arrangements have been made in the state and additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas.
No untoward incident has been reported so far, according to police.
The Governor's sanction for prosecution came on Friday.
