THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Plagued by soaring power consumption during summer and rising number of electrical mishaps, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is planning two roadshows to generate awareness among the public.  The roadshows will begin from Parassala in the south and Manjeri in the north respectively and converge at the Thekkinkadu Maidan in Thrissur on April 21.  Primarily being organised in connection with the KSEB Annual Sports Meet taking place in Thrissur on April 21 and 22, the roadshows  will feature torch rallies, KSEB officials said.  At designated halts, the power utility would organise lectures and documentary screenings. Leaflets, notices and stickers on energy conservation and safe use of electricity will be distributed to the public.  A KSEB circular issued the other day also instructs officials to note down suggestions given by the public at these events to reduce power consumption and electrical mishaps. The respective Deputy Chief Engineers (Distribution) would be in charge of organising the publicity events in each KSEB circle. KSEB staffers have also been urged to ensure that their family members also participate wholeheartedly in this campaign. Power consumption had broke through the ceiling in March forcing KSEB on to the backfoot and prompting power restrictions in the state. On March 6, the daily consumption touched 60.07 million units (MU) for the first time.   On the other hand, electrical mishaps also are on the rise. Electrical mishaps claimed the lives of 24 KSEB staffers and contract workers during the past nine months and 330 members of the general public between 2008-09 and 2011-2012, say figures released by the Power Department.
