The full board meeting of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) held here on Friday decided to reduce direct expenditure of the board owing to severe financial crisis. The power crisis in the state had forced the Board to purchase power at a higher cost. The Board has to spent about Rs 15 crore a month to purchase power at a higher cost and distribute it to consumers at a subsidised rate.
It was decided at the meet to conduct a study on power-saving mechanisms and how to implement them. The annual audit for 2011-12, including the revenue gap of Rs 1,934 crore, was approved by the Board.
Though the revenue has increased to 7 per cent, the consumption has increased to 11 per cent which led to the revenue gap. It has also been decided to start 28 section offices in the state and two sub-engineer offices.
It also decided to appoint 15 persons through the sports quota.
