MADURAI: The nuclear power plant at Koodankulam was the safest in the world, said R Banerjee, Project Director of KKNPP. Addressing a seminar on ‘Power crisis and Renewable resources,’ held at Thiagarajar college of Engineering here on Saturday, he said that four tier safety structures have been designed to ensure the safety of the nuclear reactors at the plant.Pointing out that the project was located in low seismic hazard zone he said that the chances of the plant getting hit in the event of a tsunami was minimal. Regarding the measures to prevent radiation leak, Banerjee said that as five-tier defensive systems have been incorporated, there need not be fear of radiation leak as well. When questioned about the amount of waste that would be generated at the plant, the project director said that there would be no waste in the process as everything would be recycled.
