In a case of man-animal conflict, one person was killed by an elephant at Nimbuchaur area, forest officials said on Saturday.

The dead body was recovered by a forest official from a water hole frequented by elephants in Lansdown forest, they said, adding that foot prints of a pachyderm were found near the body, which was pierced at several places.

Prima facie evidence suggests that the man, identified as 46-year-old Puran Chandra Dabral, was killed in an elephant attack, the forest officials said. The forest department has declared a compensation of Rs three lakh to the kin of the victim.
