Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: CM Mamata Banerjee Assures Victim’s Family Of Justice

A heinous crime was reported at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata when the dead body of a female PGT doctor was found in the seminar hall. Preliminary autopsy reports indicated that she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. The accused has been reportedly charged with rape and murder, based on evidence and testimonies of doctors who were present during the night-duty hours. In response to the incident, junior doctors and students at various state-run hospitals including RG Kar Medical College, National Medical College and Medical College in Kolkata held protests and processions. The parents of the victim could not attend the protest due to physical and mental illness.

According to family sources, they were informed that the victim’s mother could not go due to illness. On the same day, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the victim’s family. She reportedly met and assured them of justice. Security around the victim’s house has been heightened. The CM reportedly plans to meet the victim’s parents as well. The hospital administration is ready to accept all the demands of the victim’s family, revealed a close family member, neighbour named Sanjeev Mukherjee. The victim’s family demands speedy justice for the death of her daughter.

The father of the deceased girl said, “That doctor could not work with his mind at RG Kar Hospital. Pressure was created on her from above in various ways. She was assigned day after day duty as a woman with four male doctors. There was no separate restroom for women.”

Faced with the journalists, the victim’s family informed that they were keeping the entire medical department on the list of suspects in this incident. As per media reports, the accused have confessed to the alleged murder and sexual assault of a woman doctor at the government hospital. He is named Sanjay Roy and was a civic volunteer at the hospital.

Not only the arrested civic police, the family also suspects that someone else is behind this hellish incident.

Dr Suborn Goswami, a member of the Joint Platform of Doctors Forum believes that not one but several people are involved in the murder and rape of the doctor.
