Kerala seeks Tamil Nadu help to tide over power shortage
Closing down of power stations for repair had contributed to the acute shortage in Kerela.

Thiruvananthapuram : With the state reeling under acute power shortage, Kerala Government has sought the help of Tamil Nadu to tide over the situation.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a letter to his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalitha sought supply of the extra power the neighbouring state was producing out of wind energy.

Kerala is ready to buy electricity from Tamil Nadu as per the terms and conditions of Tamil Nadu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, he said.

The delayed monsoon, which has hit hydel power generation, cut in the central pool allocation and closing down of power stations for repair had contributed to the acute shortage in the state, he pointed out.

Though electricity is brought from private stations, still shortage exists. Under such circumstances the state is forced to implement power regulation, Chandy said in the letter.
