The Kerala High Court has lifted restrictions imposed by the police in Sabarimala to rein in protesters who are opposing the entry of women in the age group of 10-50 years in the Lord Ayyappa shrine.
The court, while appointing a panel of observers for the pilgrimage, said except Section 144, all restrictions would be removed. Justice PR Raman, Justice Sirijagan, and IPS Hema Chandran have been appointed as members of the panel.
The court also directed authorities to keep a separate place in Nadapanthal for pilgrims to rest and another area for entry of pilgrims, including women of menstrual age.
Kerala has been on the boil since the Supreme Court allowed the entry of women into the shrine of Lord Ayyappa, considered a celibate.
Protesters, including political parties, also stopped several women from making the trek to Sabarimala, saying it was an assault on their customs and traditions.
