Kollam: Hitting back at CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan for his remarks against him and the party, CK Chandrappan, CPI state secretary has said that leaders should use decent and respectable language. His comment comes a day after Vijayan at the valedictory function of the CPM meet the other day criticised Chandrappan calling his 'event management' comment as petty and that no one ought to be envious because of the CPM's growth.
Pinarayi was referring to Chandrappan's statement earlier that the CPM state meeting was organised by an event-managment company.
Chandrappan told reporters in Kollam on Saturday that there might be differences of opinion among the Left partners regarding certain issues but the language used should be civilised. "People know who is indulging in loose talk. The public is watching and such language should not be used against anyone," he said.
Chandrappan clarified that he had used the most civilized and courteous language possible while criticising the CPM. He had also apologised if it had hurt someone personally. "One should understand the context in which I made that remark. Jesus is considered as a great revolutionary by Communists around the world and I had said that displaying the picture of Jesus in an expo as part of the CPM conference was not wrong at all. But at the same time the morphing of the Last Supper cannot be justified, especially in a state like Kerala where Christians are a major minority community," he said.
Not showing any sign of bowing down to its big brother CPM on his controversial event management comment, Chandrappan said let the details come out. "As a party, it is our choice whether to comment on certain issues or not. Let the details (event management of CPM state conference) come out," he said adding with a smile that the 'event' just got over.
Making it clear that in coalition politics there are no leaders and that all parties are equal, he said Left parties should stand united. "The Left Front should be united and more parties should be brought to the Left fold. Those who moved away from the Left Front over minor issues should be brought back," he said.
