Malappuram (Kerala): A Kerala court on Thursday asked the authorities of a mosque in Vandoor to allow women to offer namaz.
The order was issued by Munsiff S Ramesan of the court on a petition filed two women Ameena and Khadija against the denial of permission for women to offer namaz.
Women were allowed to offer namaz at the mosque till 1997.
The mosque was then closed for renovation for some time and when it was re-opened in 2000, women were barred, apparently under pressure from conservative sections.
