Kejriwal's Stolen Wagon R Found After 2 Days With Sword Inside

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s blue Wagon R, which was stolen from outside the Delhi Secretariat two days ago, was found abandoned in Ghaziabad on Saturday morning.

The theft of the humble hatchback, popularly known as the ‘AAP Mobile’, had caused a sensation. Ghaziabad police officials said the car would be transferred to Delhi Police, who in turn will give it to the Delhi CM.

“A blue Wagon R has been found abandoned by Ghaziabad police and we think it is the chief minister's car," said a senior police officer. The police are verifying its engine and chassis numbers. A sword and a badminton racket were found in the car, police said.

Kejriwal on Friday had also shot off a letter to Lt Governor Anil Baijal, saying the theft of his car points towards the rapidly "deteriorating" law and order situation in the national capital. He had also wondered what the people of Delhi should expect when the chief minister's car gets stolen from outside the secretariat, which is the headquarters of the local administration.

"My Wagon R car was stolen outside the Delhi Secretariat. My car getting stolen is a small matter. But the fact that it went missing outside the Delhi Secretariat reflects the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi," Kejriwal wrote.

Kejriwal had used his creaky blue Wagon R till the 2015 assembly election. In many ways it had helped him cement his 'aam aadmi' image.

The theft had outraged AAP workers, many of whom posted videos of Kejriwal using the car, especially on Republic Day in 2014, after he became the chief minister of Delhi for the first time.

It was "donated" to Kejriwal by Kundan Sharma, a software engineer, in January 2013. However, when Kejriwal parted ways with his then party colleagues Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, Sharma demanded that the vehicle be returned.

Even after Kejriwal became the chief minister in December 2013, he refused to use an official car and preferred his old Wagon R.
