Filmmaker B Suresh, a KDA member, said the authority is conducting Kannada classes in a number of foreign countries for nonresident Kannadigas. "We have 14 centres in America, two in UK, three in Australia and two in Dubai. The KDA is conducting classes along with local Kannada organisations at these places," he stated.According to Suresh, they have prescribed a syllabus designed by linguist late Lingadevaru Halemane. It is a threemonth course and classes are being taken for eight hours in a week. "Most of these classes are conducted during weekends," he said.

The course aims at teaching reading, writing and speaking Kannada. "There are many migrants from Karnataka whose children are not able to speak Kannada. These classes will help them," he said, adding that they will conduct examinations at the end of course and for those who pass, KDA will issue an authorised certificate. Candidates with this certificate can directly take Kannada examinations conducted by Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
