Students say colleges are denying them seats, want them to wait till results of common entrance test are out.

Bangalore: Students in Karnataka have alleged that colleges are not giving them admissions and want them to wait till the Karanataka Common Entrance Test (CET COMED-K) results are out.

Aditi Pai, who secured 87 per cent in her Class XII Boards, wrote every conceivable engineering entrance exam and also applied to degree colleges.

Despite her high percentage, her name doesn't figure on the admission list of any college.

St Jospeh's College Principal Dr Fr Ambrose Pinto said, "We received at least 4000 application forms for a total of 600 seats. Cut-offs for courses are different, the applied sciences cut-off percentage is around 70 per cent but for traditional courses it is around 50 per cent".

Aditi said, "I applied here (St Jospeh's College) also as a back-up".

They decided the stream and applied in college of choice, but names not figured in the lists, as colleges decide not to offer back up for students waiting for CET COMED-K results.

For Aditi it is a traumatic wait and she wonders if scores aren't good enough in the engineering entrance exam, where will she go? Will a seat be available in the degree colleges at that time?

Competition is stiff and the CET COMED-K results are not yet out, uncertain about success in the entrance, confused students are going from one college to another to persuade the Principals to consider their candidature.

"Those who have written the CET, COMED-K, we have asked them to come back to us once the results are out," said Dr Pinto.

Classes will begin by June 18 and with most admission formalities complete by now, students wishing to pursue professional courses have not yet figured out where to anchor their boats.
