KARIMNAGAR: The district police are on a high alert as the Maoists' protest week began on Tuesday against the killing of top Maoist leader Mallojula Koteswara Rao alias Kishenji in an alleged encounter in West Bengal.
Apart from observing the protest week from November 29 to December, the Maoists have called for Telangana Bandh on December 4 and 5.According to district superintendent of police Ravinder, the security forces are ready to deal with any situation. Public representatives and others who are on the hitlist have been advised not to undertake tours without informing the police in advance.

The district police have been instructed to provide high security to minister for civil supplies D Sridhar Babu, who hails from the district, whenever he is on a visit. Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao have been moving with their gunmen ever since the SP wrote separate letters to them a few days ago on possible Maoist threat to public representatives. the east division forest area as they have been advised not to venture into deep forests which are Maoist strongholds.

"We are concentrating on areas which had heavy Maoist presence in the past, particularly on the east division forest area,'' the SP said, adding that they had no information about any fresh recruitment of cadre into Maoist groups.

Seven CRPF companies have been deployed in the district since the Sakala Janula Samme began.
