Fourth-seeded Julien Benneteau of France beat fifth-seeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open on Friday.
Benneteau is bidding to reach the final for a third straight year. He has yet to win an ATP singles title.
He broke Cuevas four times, and took 2 hours, 19 minutes to prevail at Putra Stadium.
He will face either second-seeded Ernests Gulbis of Latvia or Benjamin Becker of Germany, who played late Friday.
Also scheduled was US Open finalist and top-seeded Kei Nishikori against Marinko Matosevic of Australia.
