J&K convoy attack: Army pays last respect to slain jawan in Kolkata
The 25-year-old wife of the jawan allegedly committed suicide after the news of his death reached home.

Kolkata: The body of Adwaita Nandi, the jawan shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar on Monday was brought to Kolkata on Thursday morning where senior officers of the Eastern Command's Bengal Area Headquarters paid their final respects.

The 25-year-old wife of the jawan allegedly committed suicide after the news of his death reached home. Command officials maintained that the establishment would stand by the grieving family and provide whatever assistance they require, but the incident would not deter the soldiers from performing their duty.

A group of suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists on Monday had launched an audacious and daring attack on an Army convoy killing eight soldiers and injuring 11 others in Bemina on the outskirts of Srinagar. In a major blow to the security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir, the terrorists ambushed the Army convoy firing at least 12 rounds resulting in the casualties just a day before Manmohan Singh and UPA chief Sonia Gandhi's visit.

The ambush was carried out on the Army convoy at Hyderpora bypass on the Airport-Lal Chowk road, outside a private hospital with the terrorists firing from both sides of the road.
