There was an increase of 22.42 per cent compared to the 2001 Census, said Sunil Kumar Burnwal, the Director of the Directorate of Census Operations, Jharkhand. 76 per cent of population belongs to the villages, he said.

There was an increase of 60 lakh, 42 thousand and 305 people between the two Census reports, Burnwal told reporters here. There are 414 people per square km, compared to the previous figure of 338, he said.
