Singer Sonu Nigam on Friday hit out at Jet Airways for suspending cabin crew members following his impromptu in-flight performance in January and called it "real intolerance".
Nigam said that the seat belt sign was off and no announcements were to be made during the time he performed. He said Jet's action amounted to intolerance. "Pity, there's no one to question such harshness. This act of lack of common sense, according to me, is real intolerance."
Lashing out at the Jet Airways, Nigam added, "I have witnessed an elaborate fashion show in an aircraft. I have heard of small concerts happening in an aircraft. I have seen pilots and crew members cracking humorous jokes to loosen up passengers in other countries. To suspend crew members for asking me to sing on the address system, when the seat belt signs were off, and no announcements were to be made, is nothing less than punishing someone for spreading happiness. This act of lack of common sense is real intolerance."
According to the aviation carrier, all cabin crew members on the flight have been taken off duty. Jet said the cabin crew will undergo corrective training to reinforce adherence to its operating procedures.
A statement issued by Jet Airways said, "All cabin crew on the flight have been taken off from flight duty for enquiry and corrective training to reinforce strict adherence to operating procedures."
Onboard a flight from Jodhpur to Mumbai, the celebrity singer had given a spontaneous performance mid-air.
The video of Sonu Nigam singing 'Refugee's 'Panchi nadiya..' and 'Do pal ruka khwabon ka karvaan' from 'Veer Zaara' had gone viral on social media with over 2 million views and several thousand shares.
