Jaipur: The results of the Class XII Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exams are out. And a few students like Nirmal Sharda from Jaipur have come out with flying colours.
Success is a journey not a destination,
Just achieving excellence, not perfection.
An inner happiness for fulfillment,
That can be measured only through self-comparison.
Nirmal wrote this poem after his tenth class exams, in which he'd not faired well. But his determination to succeed got him a 92.4 per cent in his XII Boards, the highest percentage in Jaipur.
Nirmal's has a poor eyesight. And during the exams, the only concession he was given was an extra hour to write his papers.
His mother, Manju Sharda, recalls his childhood days, when he was denied admission to his school.
"At that time I felt really bad when I heard all that, I told them 'Sir, you please give him an admission and we'll make sure there are no problems with studies. Today even the school is proud of him. Now, they don't want to give him TCs, we tried to shift our younger son, but they insisted that he stays," she says.
Nirmal says his sister, Nidhi Sharda, was a constant source of encouragement and support for him.
He says that during his exam preparation, his sister asked him to draw inspiration from two characters - Santiago from the novel Alchemist and the Michelle McNally - played by Rani Mukherji - from the film, Black.
His next move is to get through to the Sri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi. And that, Nirmal plans to join the Indian Institaue of Management. His family is sure he'll succeed.
"I was like wow! It was like a dream coming true. I always told him that I want you to get through SRCC, now it seems like coming true," says Nidhi.
Apart from reading bulky books and writing poems, Nirmal also enjoys playing chess and loves cricket. But as of now, the 'on-Board' star of Jaipur is looking forward to a bright future.
