It might take Indian women a 100 years to get equal rights with men: Aziz Qureshi
Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi on Saturday said it might take women in India a 100 years to get equal rights with men in society.

Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi on Saturday said it might take women in India a 100 years to get equal rights with men in society.

"95 per cent of women in India are undergoing torture and exploitation and it could take them a hundred years to get equal rights with men in society," the Governor said addressing a function at the Raj Bhavan to mark the International Women's Day.

Talking about women of Uttarakhand hills, the Governor said women of the hill state led a life of great hardship and they needed to be given facilities for making their lives easier.

Greeting women on the occasion, he said they would have to start rebelling against discrimination and exploitation right from their homes.

Qureshi asked Uttaranchal Mahila Association (UMA), the organiser of the programme, to expand its area of activity and reach women in poor and backward regions to spread the light of development in their lives.

He said UMA should organize this function in some remote rural area of the state next year.
