ISRO case: Bangalore cops in Kerala

A team of Karnataka police on Wednesday held inquiries in Punalur in Kerala’s Kollam district as part of investigations in the case pertaining to the arrest of a woman for allegedly trespassing into ISRO premises.

The 44-year-old woman, Buela N Sam of Punalur working in Ahmedabad, created a scare after she breached security to gain entry into the ISRO guesthouse and headquarters in Bangalore using a fake ID card.

She had visited her hometown recently and allegedly got the fake ID card made at a local studio. The police have reportedly taken the proprietor of the studio into custody.

“We have traced Buela’s fake ID card to the Jana Studio in Kollam. Sini Balan, the studio’s proprietor, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. A picture of Buela was found in the hard disk of the studio’s computer. However, Balan said Buela visited the studio to get passport size photos done and later went to a lamination centre to get her ID card laminated. Balan claims he has no role in this but we are grilling him,” a official said.

Meanwhile, a city police team has also reportedly made a trip to Ahmedabad and visited the school where Buela’s husband Alex Thomas worked and the flat where the family lived. They have questioned several people about the couple.

Meanwhile, the role of an ISRO engineer has emerged. The police are trying to find out the engineer’s role in the episode.

In Bangalore, Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji said ‘nothing concrete’ has emerged so far in the probe. “As the woman is said to be ‘mentally unsound’, she will be taken to NIMHANS for a medical checkup. We are awaiting the details,” the police chief added.
