New Delhi: An American delegation arrives in the Capital on Monday to fine tune the agreement on the nuclear deal.
As South Block readies for another round of talks on Monday with a high level American team support for the deal appears to be growing in the US.
The Washington based Council on Foreign Relations has said that the deal is critical to America's strategic partnership with India and it also helps further America's non-proliferation agenda.
Says member Council Foreign Relations, Ferguson Charles, "The best you can do right now is hold the line on some very important non proliferation issues like nuclear testing, strengthening nuclear export controls and strengthening security of nuclear material so they don't fall into the hands of terrorists. Ithink we can use this deal to advance these very important goals."
Charles also adds that Congress must send India a strong message that it supports the deal.
"First Congress would pass "Sense of the Senate" and Sense of the House" resolution, and both houses would say, in general they support the basic conceptual framework, in showing that we want to then move forward with a strong relationship between United States and India," Charles says.
However, he adds that Congress must wait for the Nuclear Suppliers Group to amend its laws on exporting nuclear technologies to India.
The party must ensure a cast iron bilateral nuclear agreement with India and also ensure a strong safeguards agreement between India and the IAEA.
Ferguson's stand however may not win him any support in India for it's well known that India wants Congress to clear the deal first before it approaches the Nuclear Suppliers Group and the IAEA.
