New Delhi: There's still a chance that India might be able get back Gandhi's memorabilia free of cost and Vijay Mallaya - who bid at the auction and won - may get back his money too.
Government sources tell CNN-IBN that India is now aggressively pursuing the legal angle in the case.
After the US State Justice Department upheld the validity of the Delhi High Court stay order on Thursday, efforts are now on to get the injunction legally enforced.
The Indian Government has two weeks before the Antiquorum Auction House hands over the auctioned items to Vijay Mallaya to present a water-tight case on Gandhi's will.
Through its injunction, the Indian Government wants Gandhi's will to be honoured in totality and declare the auction held on Thursday night illegal.
If they manage to do this, they will also be able to get back the money spent by Vijay Mallaya in buying out the items, which the auction house will have to return by law. The items will then be given gratis to India by the auction house.
