KARIMANGAR: A sevenyearold Pittala Sridhar, a hearing impaired child, always feared going to school. But, after a year's training provided by an inclusive education resource teacher (IERT), he is loving school.
According to his teacher, Sarada, Sridhar was provided with hearing aid and was prepared for a regular school. "The training has worked wonders on him. It has helped him a lot and now, he enjoys school," she said.Another fiveyearold kid, Lavanaya, who is mentally challenged has shown tremendous improvement during and after the training program.

Lavanya's father, Ravinder, said that they had put her in a regular school after the training. "She is just like another student now and sits in classes quietly and listens," said her father.

About 483 children have already undergone the training while 600 others have been identified for the next training program.

About 34 'special educators' have been appointed for facilities like physiotherapy, speech therapy and counselling for the children with special needs.

Apart from providing access to quality education, RVM provides healthcare assistance to these kids. "If a child has to undergo any surgery, we refer them to superspeciality hospitals," said RVM project officer V Ganga Reddy.

The RVM project officer said that they were planning to distribute aid and other material to these kids on World Disability Day which is on December 3.
