Director Imtiaz Ali saw Antardwand, a film based on a true story of groom kidnapping, at a special screening in Mumbai and immediately feel in love with the film. The film got its true recognition when it achieved national award in the social issue category in 2009.
Speaking about the issue of the film, Imtiaz says, “I come from a region where these things do happen. The film brings to light the issue of groom kidnapping and when I saw the film, I really loved it. That’s why I am supporting the film. Honestly, I hate art films. But this one is entertaining.”
National award is a great achievement for a film. Imtiaz reveals, “I saw the film when it had not won the national award. It is a small budget film and it is important to bring this topic to the audience. Sadly, the cost of reaching out to the audience has become too expensive. It is important that the film is seen by maximum number of people.”
Imtiaz Ali also shares that he will definitely make an issue based film in the future. “Sushil (director) felt from within that he wants to highlight the issue of groom kidnapping. There are many issues existing but the subject should come from my heart.”
When asked about a particular issue he would like to highlight in his film, after a long pause he says, “I would like to make a film which inspires the youth and also focuses on education.”
Imtiaz Ali was tied up to a chair in groom’s attire to promote the film. Sushil says, “It was Imtiaz who came up with this idea because he loved the film. I am thankful that he has come out to promote the film.”
Antardwana directed by Sushil Rajpal and the cast includes Raj Chaudhary, Vinay Pathak, Swati Sen and Akhilendra Mishra has been made at a roughly budget of Rs 1 crore and is slated to release on August 27.
