New Delhi: Defying advice from across India’s political spectrum to first put his house in order, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan alleged persecution of minorities in India, saying he would ensure Hindus and Christians are treated as equal citizens in his Muslim-majority nation.
Taking to Twitter to commemorate Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s birth anniversary, Khan said he “struggled" for a separate nation of Pakistan after realising that “Muslims would not be treated as equal citizens by the Hindu majority". He added that he would ensure equality of religious minorities in Pakistan, “unlike what is happening in India".

Khan had made similar remarks following the controversy over actor Naseeruddin Shah’s remarks on the Bulandshahr violence. Shah had said that he feared for his children’s future in a country that values the death of a cow more than the death of a policeman.
As the controversy snow-balled, Shah had himself hit back at Pakistan PM. “I think Mr Khan should be walking the talk in his own country instead of commenting on issues that don’t concern him. We have been a democracy for 70 years and we know how to look after ourselves," The Indian Express quoted Shah as saying.
The BJP, whose leaders had lashed out at Shah’s statement, also slammed Khan, saying his country had become 'terroristan' and shouldn’t lecture India.
