IMD Predicts Heatwave In Next 2 Days, Heavy Rainfall in These States | Details Here
The heat wave conditions are very likely to be felt in isolated pockets over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, North Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on April 5 and 6

A heatwave is expected to prevail over east and peninsular India for the next two days, the Indian Meteorological Department said on Friday. The northeast region is also likely to receive intense rain and thunderstorm till April 9, the weather agency further noted.

On Monday, the IMD had forecasted that this summer will witness a longer number of heat wave days in many areas of central, northern plains and southern India. The weather department had also said that the country is set to experience extreme heat during the months of April to June, with the central and western peninsular parts expected to face the worst impact.

The heat wave conditions are very likely to be felt in isolated pockets over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, North Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on April 5 and 6.

Hot and humid weather is also likely to prevail over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the period of April 5 to 9.

On the other hand, heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh during April 5 to 9 over Assam and Meghalaya on April 5 and 6 and over Odisha on April 7 and 8.

Earlier, Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju also said that there are Lok Sabha elections in the next few days and precautions have been taken for the heatwave. “We had a two-day meeting with State governments regarding preparations and issued an advisory for the same,” he added.

While talking about the prevailing heatwave conditions, Rijiju said, “According to our projections, a huge region of the country is going to be affected with heatwave including states like West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.”

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra also said that this time, 10-20 days of heat wave are expected in different parts of the country against a normal of four to eight days.
