2013 saw a range of colourful ghaghras in Ram Leela, the simple chiffon sarees in Lootera, an interesting fusion in Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola and the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag costumes that revived the memories of yesteryears. All these graceful and lavish outfits set the trend for the rest of the year.
When it came to choosing the best, the users were clearly smitten by the ornate blouses and riot of colours in those heavily embroidered ghaghras that Deepika Padukone donned in Ram Leela. Maxima Basu and Anju Modi win this year's award for Best Costume with a staggering lead of 72.72% of the votes.
The other nominees on the list - Niharika Khan (Kai Po Che), Subarna Ray Chaudhuri (Lootera), Dolly Ahluwalia (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) and Payal Saluja (Matru Ki Bijlee ka Mandola) battled among themselves for an almost equal share of votes.
While 'Ram Leela' celebrated the rich heritage of Gujarat, Niharika Khan kept the look of 'Kai Po Che', based in Gujarat as well, very contemporary and realistic. Something which was more relatble with the audience. She won 4.56% votes.
Chiffon and dhakai sarees with long sleeve blouses, tweed coats and wollen pants brought back the 1950s era in 'Lootera'. The look was simple, understated and very vintage. Designer Subarna Ray Chaudhuri earned 12.01% of the total votes.
Rural punjab in the 1940s had to be projected on screen. Cotton kurtas and printed patialas with chiffon dupattas completed the look. About 7.34% of the total votes were won by designer Dolly Ahluwalia.
Imran Khan sported a beard, wore kurtas with jeans to look like a yong man from a village in Haryana. Anushka's look was more experimental as she was seen wearing brocade kurtis with ankle length ghagras- a modern spin off of what women wear in rural Haryana. Designer Payal Saluja received 3% votes.
