IAS officer accused of rape, questions raised over delay in probe
A 23-year-old IAS aspirant from UP, Rajasthan's senior IAS officer has not even been questioned by the police.

Jaipur: Over a week after he was booked for rape of a 23-year-old IAS aspirant from UP, Rajasthan's senior IAS officer has not even been questioned by the police. The complainant now wants either the government to intervene and expedite probe or transfer the case to CBI.

Eight days after he was booked for rape and sexual exploitation of a 23-year-old IAS aspirant, the police are yet to question senior IAS officer from Rajasthan BB Mohanty. Not just that the police hasn't been able to track down Mohanty who's neither at home nor reported at work since the case was registered on Jan 25. The question everyone is asking is would the police act like this if the accused wasn't an influential bureaucrat.

Reacting to the allegations, Janga Shriniwas Rao, Commissioner of Police, Jaipur said "Any accused whoever he is must get a fair chance. Investigation does not mean immediate arrest. Police are investigating the case. We have summoned him on February 5 to join the investigation".

The 23-year-old IAS aspirant, who has charged Mohanty with first sexually assaulting her on February 19 last year and then sexually exploiting her for several months, now wants either the government to intervene and expedite action against Mohanty or transfer the case to the CBI.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, the complainant said "I want the government to take some action. He continues to hold his position, he is not being arrested. I want a fair probe".

Mohanty still continues to hold office as the Chairman of the Rajasthan Civil Services Tribunal. The police investigating the case have not been able to carry out search at his house after being denied access by his family. Women's rights activists are demanding that the officer be removed from office while the probe against him is on.

Attacking the government for not showing any interest in the case, Kavita Shrivastava, a Civil Rights activist said "We want the CM and the Chief Secretary to intervene and ensure a fair investigation is conducted".

The Rajasthan police have earlier failed to arrest Madhukar Tandon senior police officer accused of rape. He has been on the run for the past 17 years. The police's delay in questioning BB Mohanty who is now untraceable is raising serious questions. People are asking if the police are under pressure to shield Mohanty or are they facilitating his escape with delay in questioning him?

What's your reaction?
