CHENNAI: Understanding of GodI can feel God in all my activities and thinking of Him guides me. He is with me all the time. This has been taught to me by my father, when I was a child.Spiritual beliefsBlessed being born in Tiruvannamalai, my parents induced the spiritual life and did my Aksharabyasam at Ramana Ashram. The day after my marriage, we (my parents with my in-laws) went to Tiruvannamalai and Ramana Ashram and had girivalam. Our lives revolve around the divine attributes. I abide by the inner voice and this has given me divine commitment.Spiritual practicesI meditate a number of times a day whenever and wherever I get a chance. Also, as a surgeon, one spiritual practice that I make it a point to follow every time I pick up my knife to operate, is to say a prayer that all goes well.Pilgrimage sites I regularly visit Tiruvannamalai (girivalam), Ramana Ashram, Tirupathi, Aurobindo Ashram and Valayalamman Temple (family deity) at Arani.MiraclesSix years ago, when I went to Puttaparthi, I was sitting in a huge crowd of over 20,000 people waiting for Shri Sathya Sai Baba. For some reason, he found me – gave me the vibuthi prasadham and said, “come for my talk in the evening and bring your wife”. We hadn’t told him, but somehow he knew that my wife was going to undergo chemotherapy. When we met Sai Baba later that day, he assured us that everything would be okay. A month later, we went to Singapore for treatment and, just as he had said ,in the days to come, the disease went away.In fact, my choice of career was led by a miracle as well. When I was 16 years old, I visited the Ramana Ashram and met Bhagawan Ramana Maharishi before applying to join the Indian Air Force. My father was a doctor, and the maharishi seemed to know that I should follow in his footsteps. He simply told me, “Appa madhiri doctor aaganum,” (Become a doctor like your father). So, one of the most crucial decisions of my life was led by a miracle.
