KOCHI: Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd (HPC), the third largest entity in the Indian paper industry, celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day on Tuesday at Mahajati Sadan in Kolkata. Actor Soumitra Chatterjee, recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was the chief guest. He lit the ceremonial lamp along with M V Narasimha Rao, chairman and managing director, HPC. Addressing the gathering, Chatterjee lauded the untiring efforts of HPC employees towards quality production which has aided the spread of literacy. Narasimha Rao in his welcome address recounted the glorious journey HPC had undertaken in the last 42 years. He attributed it to the drive and dedication of the disciplined HPC family which has helped fulfil the mandate given on May 29, 1970. He also highlighted the need to rededicate themselves to meet the never-ending challenges on their paths of peak performance. Rao also felicitated Chatterjee for his contribution to Indian cinema and presented him with a citation. The entire HPC family, which included employees of the wholly owned subsidiary Hindustan Newsprint Ltd in Kerala and two directly managed mills in Assam, namely Nagaon Paper Mill and Cachar Paper Mill, assembled at the stadium to witness the musical extravaganza led by Raghab Chatterjee and Jojo. HPC operates with three integrated paper mills each with an installed capacity of 1,00,000 tonnes of paper per annum.
