Gwalior: As the country marked the 137th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation on Monday, a voluntary organisation Gwalior distributed milk to alcoholics to wean them away from liquor.

According to the organisers, the anti-liquor drive, being organised in Gwalior for the last 10 years has had a salutary influence on many addicts to get rid of the habit.

"Our motive is that people here should drink milk and be healthy by quitting liquor. Keeping this in mind we have been organising this rally for the past 10 years," said Laxman Singh Gogri.

Hundreds of people participated in the event and several vowed not to touch alcohol ever again.

"Liquor is not healthy, it is just taking us to worse in life. If we start drinking as much milk as we take liquor, we can live a very healthy life free of many of the daily tensions," said Balram a local at the event.

Mahatma Gandhi had also worked for the eradication of social evils like caste system and alcoholism.
