There was high drama in front of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) office near the Bangalore Diary Circle on Tuesday when supporters of both the managing directors of the federation and a few farmers indulged in a wordy duel.
A meeting of board of directors was convened to seek the removal of former Managing Director Venkatram who is facing charges of irregularities in purchase of cottonseed cakes.
Well before the beginning of the meeting, supporters of both Venkatram and new managing director Premnath gathered in front of the federation office to protest.
As a precaution, adequate security was made at the federation office to prevent any untoward incident. As soon as Premnath arrived at the office, some people allegedly tried to prevent him from entering the office. The police wielded lathis and escorted him to his chambers.
Supporters of Venkatram squatted on the road and shouted slogans against Premnath. As a result, traffic was affected for sometime. Later, protesters were dispersed by the police.
Meanwhile, the Animal Husbandry Department has stated that the appointment of the new Managing Director on September 5 was not proper as the selection should have been made by an expert panel.
A board member, on condition of anonymity, said, “In the absence of the chairman, the decision taken by the board is final. And accordingly, Venkatram has been removed from the post of Managing Director.”
