New Delhi: The Uttarakhand High Court rapped the BJP government in the state for failing to provide bare minimum facilities in schools on Thursday.
A bench of Justice Alok Singh and Justice Rajiv Sharma ruled that no cars, air conditioners would be bought for government officials till benches, blackboard, water purifiers were made available for kids in government schools.
"Since, the state government miserably failed to provide minimum bare facilities in schools inter alia benches, desks, blackboards, hygienic separate toilets for boys and girls, water purifiers and ceiling fans, the state government is restrained from buying luxurious cars, furniture and air conditioners till further orders of this court,” the bench said.
The court restrained the state government from buying cars, air conditioners and furniture till further orders. It also summoned the state revenue secretary and education secretary on Friday to explain the state of affairs.
The bench noted that the government has failed to comply with its November 2016 order where it was directed to provide bare minimum infrastructure in government schools to check falling standards of education in Uttarakhand. They also observed that no budgetary allocation was made till date to make sure all government-run schools in the state get basic amenities such as benches, blackboards, water purifiers, toilets and so on.
