ADILABAD/VISAKHAPATNAM: Two farmers died in a hailstorm in Adilabad district while standing crops were damaged in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Adilabad districts as heavy rains lashed north coastal Andhra and Adilabad district in Telangana on Wednesday due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.Due to heavy inflows from upper streams, all the major reservoirs in in the Krishna and Godavari basins were overflowing.Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers are in spate as heavy rains have lashed Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts and the catchments area of Odisha for the past few days.Small rivers, rivulets, streams and water tanks were overflowing at several places, while the reservoirs received heavy inflows with the rains battering the districts.The rain waters submerged agricultural fields at several places.Normal life was thrown out of gear in some parts of Srikakulam district and Parvatipuram revenue division of Vizianagaram district.Around 30 villages in Parvatipuram mandal were cut off from the rest of the world with water flooding the roads.ADILABAD:Two farmers died due to lightning while they were working in the fields in Ravulla Palli village in Bheemini mandal in Adilabad district.The deceased were identified as Y Bhumaiah and B Booraiah.Two others, Lakshmi and Mallesh, were injured and shifted to the Mancherial government hospital.Another farmer, Shankaraiah, was seriously injured when lightening struck Regachini village in Thandur mandal.His bull died.The heavy rains marooned several villages.In Yapalaguda, cotton and soybean crops in around 120 acres were damaged.Araguda Vagu, Golla Vagu, Bathukamma Vagu in Cheenur mandal were overflowing on the bridges.Around 30 villages were completely cut off from the rest of the district.Around 27 villages in Bela, Koutalla, Bejjur Dahegam mandals were also cut off from other villages.Coal production in the open-cast at mine Srirampur was affected on Wednesday.Penganga and Pranahita rivers are in spate.Two gates of Mathadi Vagu barrage in Tamsi mandal were opened and 2,000 cusecs of water was released.SRIKAKULAM:With heavy inflows into the Vamsadhara and Nagavali continuing, officials have identified 26 villages along the Nagavali and 113 along the Vamsadhara as vulnerable.The Vamsadhara recorded the highest inflow this year.The major irrigation project on the river, the Gotta barrage in Hiramandalam mandal, was overflowing.Buses were plying on the barrage but services to Matala and Penugotivada in Kotturu mandal have been stopped.According to officials, the current inflow of Vamsadhara at Gotta Barrage is 23,000 cusecs and the same is being released into the Bay of Bengal by lifting all the 23 gates.However, there will not be any fear of flood till the inflow reaches 40,000 cusecs.The inflows into the Madduvalasa reservoir in Vangara mandal was recorded as 6,000 cusecs due to heavy inflows in small rivers like Suvarnamukhi and Vegavati.All the four gates of Madduvalasa reservoir were lifted.In addition to rains in Odisha, the water flow of Madduvalasa has been released into Narayanapuram Ayucut on river Nagavali in Burja mandal.As the officials forecast heavy rains in the coming two days, there is a threat of inundation of several villages in Srikakulam district.VIZIANAGARAM:In Vizianagaram district villagers in Parvathipuram division living along the course of Nagavali are gripped by fear as the river’s flow has increased significantly.Officials released 23,000 cusecs of water from the Thotapalli reservoir into the sea by lifting six gates following heavy inflows from the catchments area of Odisha.Though Parvatipuram area has received moderate rainfall, some of the low- lying areas are water- logged.The RTC bus stand area, highway and old bus stand were under water.Revenue divisional officer BR Ambedkar visited the Thotapalli and other lowlying areas.Madilinga, Neemalapadu, Palem, Kudumu, Kottu, Kensila, Dalaipeta and Bitarapadu villages in Parvatipuram mandal were cut off from the rest of the district.
