New Delhi: The Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Friday held a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Health Ministry and AIIMS to discuss the prevention of Zika virus.
The meeting was called after the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Thursday announced it will hold an emergency meeting next week to decide whether the virus outbreak should be declared an international health emergency or not, given its 'explosive' spread in parts of the world.
The Health Ministry is set to issue a Zika advisory, the sources said. It is learnt that the advisory will include guidelines for travellers going to Zika-hit countries.
A technical group will be formed to assess the Zika threat to India and the government is likely to get Zika virus testing within a week. So far, no positive cases of Zika has been reported in India.
